About the Messiah
I did a quick search on GPT for what is considered by many scholars, the top 10 list of Messianic Prophecies… Our goal is to see if we can find enough proof in the Tanak (Old Testament), that would understand the top 10 more fully, and to see if that would have been convincing to 1st century jews.
This may end up being a Potential series in order to dig more into each one.
- Isaiah 7:14: “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.”
- Isaiah 9:5-6: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
- Isaiah 11:1-10: “A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him…”
- Micah 5:2: “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
- Zechariah 9:9: “Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
- Jeremiah 23:5-6: “The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.”
- Daniel 7:13-14: “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence.”
- Psalm 22: This Psalm contains several verses that were interpreted as referring to the suffering and persecution of the Messiah.
- Isaiah 53: This chapter describes the suffering servant who bears the sins of many, often interpreted as a prophecy about the Messiah’s suffering and atonement.
- Malachi 4:5-6: “See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents.”
